Millions of U.S. Facebook users who filed a valid  claim received a payment from a  $725 million class-action settlement . The settlement stems from allegations that Facebook, now Meta, shared user data with third parties, including the political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica, without consent between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022. While Meta denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to avoid trial costs. The payment amount for eligible claimants depended on how long they had an active Facebook account during that period. Each month of active use counted as a point, and the total value of the net settlement fund was distributed based on those points. Payments, which began distribution in August 2025, averaged around $29.43, with individual amounts ranging from a minimum of $4.89 to a maximum of $38.36. The deadline to file a claim was August 25, 2023.
