The essence of politics lies in addressing the desires and aspirations of the people. Looking back through history, we see that the changes people long for ultimately become the final truth. No government or political party can survive for long if it goes against the people’s will. In a nation like Nepal, a multiparty system is the only viable alternative. However, the absence of viable alternatives does not grant parties the prerogative to disregard the interests of the citizens. Corruption, factionalism, self-serving motives, and mismanagement within parties have engendered widespread discontent among the populace. In such circumstances, resolute young leaders within parties must assume the role of reformers. They must rectify the internal issues, enhance conduct and political culture, and respond to the growing voices from the grassroots.
